Vegas Grand Prix road improvements nearing completion

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 30, 2007) – Resurfacing and improvements to the 2.44-mile, 12-turn track for the Vegas Grand Prix is progressing well, according to Chris Kneifel, circuit manager for the event scheduled to race through the streets of downtown Las Vegas April 6-8. The City of Las Vegas Department of Public Works has already completed about 80 percent of the street improvements required for the race.
Presented by DDB Ventures, the inaugural festival of speed and entertainment will include Champ Car World Series, Champ Car Atlantic and Historic Grand Prix races along with concerts, a charity gala, a poker tournament and more.
Recently, Main Street was repaved from Bonneville Avenue to Carson Avenue, while Carson has been resurfaced from Main Street to First Street and from Casino Center Boulevard to Fourth Street. The intersection of Grand Central Parkway and Bonneville was also resurfaced with additional work scheduled on Grand Central Parkway in February following a major function at the World Market Center.
Additional work around the Golden Nugget bordered by Casino Center Boulevard, First Street and Bridger Avenue is also being completed soon.

The Vegas Grand Prix is a three-day festival of speed and entertainment being held April 6-8, 2007 that will encircle the heart of downtown Las Vegas. The weekend will feature rock concerts, a celebrity poker tournament, Easter services, an impressive Easter egg hunt and culminate in the internationally televised 2007 series opener for the Champ Car World Series.
The racing portion of the weekend will also present a Historic Grand Prix with legendary open-wheel racers participating as well as the season opener for Champ Car Atlantic – Champ Car’s support series. The temporary street circuit is a 2.44-mile, 12-turn course through the heart of “Glitter Gulch.” Champ Cars generate nearly 750 horsepower and can reach speeds up to 180 miles per hour on the Vegas street course. It is expected to be one of the largest events in the history of downtown Las Vegas.
